Our Mission

Carolina Leadership Development promotes effective leadership and citizenship through experiential learning, training, and resources. As a central resource within the Division of Student Affairs for student leadership education, training, and development, Carolina Leadership Development serves all students, as well as other departments within the University community.

To fulfill this mission, this office:

  1. Provides leadership programs and opportunities combining education (knowledge), training (skills), development (growth), and service (action), integrating curricular and co-curricular activities.
  2. Challenges and supports students' intellectual development utilizing an interdisciplinary approach to leadership, by incorporating recent theories of leadership, with attention to ethics, multiculturalism, globalism, social responsibility and community action.
  3. Serves the University community by:a) providing educational materials and professional consultation, and b) promoting interaction of students, faculty, staff and others through collaborative efforts.
  4. Conducts theory-based research to further the field of leadership studies including the evaluation of student needs and outcomes assessment.
  5. Employs multiple theoretical models to reflect the importance of cultural influences on leadership.

It is expected that, as a result of participating in programs and services offered by Carolina Leadership Development, students will become more confident and effective in their leadership and citizenship.
